Chamber Applies for Re-Accreditation

Standing Out. Moving Ahead.

Since 1964, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce has offered an accreditation program to recognize chambers that stand out from the crowd. Accreditation is recognition that a chamber uses the most widely acknowledged elements of success in critical areas of organization structure, leadership, and operations. On a five-year cycle, chambers can conduct the comprehensive organizational competency assessment as a means of improving their performance and professionalism.

In 2000, the Shiawassee Regional Chamber of Commerce (SRCC) took on the challenge of assuring that it meets the professional organization standards established by the U. S. Chamber of Commerce and was awarded its first "Accredited" status in June of that year.

Now in the fifth year of the original accreditation, SRCC staff spent the last four months reviewing and documenting the Chamber’s growth and development, program of work, procedures, and achievements in eight key areas: Governance, Finance, Human Resources & Staff, Government Affairs, Program Development, Communication, Technology, and Facilities.

With an application that fills a 4" three-ring binder, The SRCC is looking forward to receiving notice of Accreditation in June.

The Shiawassee Regional Chamber of Commerce is a private, non-profit business association of nearly 600 members serving to improve the economic well being of its members and the communities in Shiawassee County.
