At our last board meeting towards the end, the President asked if I would leave the room. As I left the boardroom all I could think about was the story that Mel Fletcher of the US Chamber told at institute, about the Chamber manager that got a great review and was asked to leave the boardroom to discuss his raise in pay. After about 45-minutes he was called back into the boardroom and was let go. The majority of the board didn’t know what his salary was. After a careful review, it was decided that he was not worth the salary he was being paid.

I walked back to my office and sat down. We just had a great board meeting and reviewed financial report on our largest project of the year having a net profit of $47,653.75. My stomach turned over and I had a large lump in my throat. But, in less than a minute, one of my board members from the local college asked me to step back into the room. As I entered, I got a standing ovation. The board member who escorted me back into the room put his hand on my shoulder and said, “In the academic world it is publish or perish. Many of our board members brought it to our attention that our Chamber has been published in Chamber101.

I didn’t realize that my board members knew about Chamber101. Sam. asked if I would join Chamber101 and send some data in on some of our newest projects. Without giving it much thought and since he and you are old com-padres, I joined and sent the data in.

They gave me a small bonus and in the future I won’t think about Mel Fletcher’s story again, if they ask me to leave the boardroom. Again, I was surprised that the board members knew about Chamber101. I can tell you that our staff now uses it on a weekly basis. It is just full of ideas and as you have mentioned, why reinvent the wheel.

Ceo notes:
We have members and non-members who send data ot point me to good data on the web. To see if you have been published, go to the home page of chamber101.com to the search box and search for the first name of your chamber. Here’s hoping that you find your name, and if not that you will join Chamber101 with data and then you can say that your Chamber has been published.
