2nd Annual Chili Cook-off a Success Ten teams competed for the title of Supreme Chili at the 2nd Annual Decorah Area Chamber of Commerce Chili Cook-off, which was held on Saturday, October 5, 2002. Three expert chili connoisseurs--Bruce Schuman, Glenda Wuest, and Ryan O’Donnell (KTTC-TV)--selected the 2nd Annual “Chili Kings” (or queens) award. This year’s title was given to the Fred Carlson Company– Decorah Asphalt that prepared their “Kick’n As-phalt and Take’n Names” chili. Over 150 taste-testers voted for the People’s Choice award, which was presented to Mike Wold of Winneshiek County Farm Bureau. Wold and his team prepared three different chili recipes, with the favorite being a fajita chili. Proceeds from the 2nd Annual Chili Cook-off, which totaled almost $400, were donated to the Decorah Community Free Clinic. The purpose of the Clinic is to provide an avenue of health care to Decorah area individuals with limited resources to health care. A BIG thanks you to everyone who took part in making this event a success and helping the Decorah Community Free Clinic. Ref. Decorah Area Chamber of Commerce
