Citizen of the Year Nominations due
Nominations for the 2000 Citizen of the Year are due by Jan. 19. Nominations should be made by letter and sent to the Citizen of the Year Committee, P.O. Box 1582, Kilgore, Texas 75663, or brought to the chamber office at 813 N. Kilgore Street The 2000 recipient will be announced at the annual chamber banquet on Feb. 8 by a family member of the 1999 Citizen of the Year, R. S. Martin, Jr. The criteria for selecting the Citizen of the Year is: 1) A nominee must have been a resident of Kilgore for at least five years. 2) The award shall be based on the activities of a nominee for the past five years. 3) A nominee should be a local business or civic leader, male or female, whose unselfish service has furthered the civic and business welfare of our city. 4) A nominee shall be a member of the Kilgore Chamber of Commerce or the representative of a member firm in good standing. 5) Nominees shall have manifested unusual service in one or more of the following areas: community service projects, youth work, civic club service, church activities, civic improvement projects, United Way, industrial development, unsolicited and unselfish to others for the betterment of mankind and community life in Kilgore. The nominee’s talents, their willingness to help and their unselfish attitude toward life should be a major consideration. 6) The award may be given posthumously.
